Rainwater Harvesting
This is now relatively straight forward and some really good, effective and very well priced equipment is now on the market.
Unfortunately, more cheap copies are appearing from the far east but we have stuck with well trusted supplies we have known for the last 20 plus years.
The factors to consider:
- Collection. What area can you utilise to effectively collect the rain water? How can this water be channelled to a storage area.
Roofs and existing down pipes are ideal but run-off from hard standing can also be used. In most cases we are looking to get the rainwater into a storage tank without having to pump it. - Filtration. Initial filtration to remove organic matter is vital to stop the stored water becoming a primeval soup. Many filters will also act as a cleaner/flushing mechanism come overflow so in periods of very heavy rain it will stop the large quantities of dirt dislodged by heavy rain from entering the storage as well as stopping the system from been overwhelmed.
- Storage. Many sizes and types of tanks are available allow us to recommend the correct solution for your storage requirements.
- Pumping and distribution allow us to use our experience to provide the best solution. The off the shelf may not be the best option.
- Control and warnings. Many rain water harvesting systems are used for critical functions such as toilets so it is important that you have a backup from the mains and this switches over seamlessly. Many of the control systems will give warnings of tank level, pump state and mains fill to enable you to operate and control your RWH system.
- Overflow. Often forgotten but very important that this allowed for so that any excess water can be removed without causing any damage.
